What does the 2026 vignette cost?

As in previous years, the 2026 annual vignette costs 40 Swiss francs — whether as a sticker or as an e-vignette. It is valid from 1 December 2025 until 31 January 2027. Buy it in December 2025 and you can use it for up to 14 months.

Motorcycles and trailers need their own vignette. The sticker is tied to the vehicle (the windscreen) and cannot be transferred; the e-vignette is tied to the licence plate.

Where can you buy the vignette?

The 2026 sticker is sold at numerous outlets in Switzerland and just across the border. The e-vignette is available online only:

  • Petrol stations (Shell, BP, Agrola, Migrol, Tamoil etc.)
  • Swiss Post
  • Cantonal road traffic offices (Strassenverkehrsamt)
  • Kiosks and newsagents
  • Supermarkets (Migros, Coop in selected branches)
  • E-vignette: only in the official Via portal of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG)
  • Outlets near the border in Germany, France, Austria and Italy
Careful: forgeries
Buy the sticker only from authorised outlets, and the e-vignette only in the BAZG's Via portal. Forged stickers or e-vignettes from dubious third-party shops mean a fine of 200 francs at a check, plus the price of a valid vignette. Genuine stickers carry a hologram and specific security features.

How is the sticker fixed to the car?

The sticker has to go on the inside of the windscreen, clearly visible from outside. The best place for it:

  • In the upper area of the windscreen, outside the driver's field of vision
  • Not over a section the wipers no longer clean properly
  • Not on tinted or damaged parts of the glass

A sticker that sits in the wrong place or is not visible counts as missing and is fined. With the e-vignette that risk disappears, because it is linked electronically to the licence plate.

Is there an electronic vignette in Switzerland?

Yes. Since 1 August 2023 Switzerland has had the e-vignette. It is linked to the licence plate and is sold exclusively through the official Via portal of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG). Price, validity and the obligation itself are identical to the sticker. The classic sticker remains available — so you have the choice.

The advantage of the e-vignette: nothing to stick on, nothing to scrape off when you change car, no mix-ups when the vehicle changes hands. The drawback: if the licence plate changes, you have to buy a new e-vignette.

What fines apply if the vignette is missing or invalid?

Anyone using a Swiss motorway without a valid vignette risks:

  • A fine of at least 200 francs
  • Payment of the vignette price on top (40 francs)
  • For repeat or deliberate offences: higher penalties are possible

FlexiMoto and the vignette

If you buy a car from FlexiMoto, the vignette is not included in the price — it is down to the registered keeper. Remember to get a valid vignette for your new car as soon as you plan to use it on Swiss motorways.
